La Selva

This 3,900 acre preserve houses the principal research facilities of OTS.        We spend our last five days here, making the most of its remarkable plant and animal diversity, as we complete the course research projects.

Each morning, we leave the dining hall north of the river...

... cross the Stone Bridge (an inside joke) ...

... and enter the research area south of the river...

... where a 50 km network of carefully marked trails allows us to walk throughout the forest ...

(except, of course, when they're flooded) ...

...to study the

400 species of birds,

700 species of trees,

and thousands of species of arthropods

that inhabit the forest and its edges.
