Welcome to Bullfrog Creek! This riparian buffer zone is a tributary to the Skippack Creek, located in Lower Salford. Due to severe erosion a restoration project began in 2000, enabling the community to come together to rebuild the area. For more information about the buffer zone please click on one of the links in the menu.
Importance of Buffer Zones
What is a buffer zone? A buffer zone is an area along a waterway with plants and trees growing along the banks. These areas are defined as "green" zones that provide ecological benefits. Unfortunately, as more development occurs these buffer zones become degraded.

What do Riparian Buffer Zones do?
Reduces flood impacts: Trees and other plants slow floodwaters when it rains, preventing erosion
Store water: Buffers absorb storm waters like a sponge, allowing waters to seep into the ground so that the stream does not dry up as quickly
Improve water quality: Buffer areas act as a filter, trapping pollutants and sediments
Restore habitat: The different plants provide shelter, food sources, and temperature relief, which supports aquatic life and nesting birds
Enhance visual appeal: Healthy stream waters can increase property values for surrounding land owners
Create more recreational opportunities: Walking, jogging, biking, bird watching, and photography are enhanced by a beautiful view
