Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory

The course CHEM-401a, Laboratory in Advanced Inorganic Chemistry, uses the lab each fall, along with CHEM-102a, Laboratory in Forensic Chemistry, in certain spring semesters.  The lab can accommodate 16 students comfortably, each student having one large bench, or up to 32 students if experiments are done in pairs.  Each of the 9 hoods (6 feet wide) are fitted with house vacuum, cold water, and a gas outlet; cylinders are placed at the north side of the lab allowing gases to be fed into all hoods.  In CHEM-401a, several preparations are done under nitrogen gas, and therefore, this arrangement provides a convenient way of distributing the gas to all students simultaneously.  The lab also contains a Labconco®  glove box, drying oven, several balances, and a small refrigerator.  There are emergency eye washes at each sink, along with two emergency showers.
