Environmental Studies Program

Human relationships with the natural world range across disciplines, from the spiritual, ethical, and aesthetic to the scientific, economic, and political. The Ursinus College Environmental Studies Program offers students an opportunity to study and experience environmental issues from multiple perspectives. Students may either major or minor in environmental studies. Independent research and practical experience are an integral part of the program, allowing students to pursue a topic of their interest in a more detailed and self-directed fashion. Ursinus students are active on campus, working with members of the faculty, staff, and administration on sustainability projects involving resource conservation, recycling, energy efficiency, landscape and water resource management, organic farming, purchasing and contracting policies, and other issues. Ursinus students also provide leadership in local community-oriented conservation programs, working closely with partner organizations on watershed and ecosystem-level issues. Ursinus has two student-led campus-wide groups – a student environmental group, UC Environmental Action, that runs conferences and others events and activities for the benefit of the Ursinus community, and the campus sustainability committee, SustainUC, which works closely with the administration and Facilities Services Office to ensure that Ursinus follows sustainable business practices.
