Faculty>Mark Hudson

Mark Hudson, Assistant Professor of Sociology; B.A., University of Manitoba; M.E.S., York University; Ph.D., University of Oregon.

In addition to teaching Contemporary Social Issues and Political Sociology, Dr. Hudson teaches courses in Environmental Sociology, Environmental Justice and Global Environmental Politics. His research is at the intersection of political economy and the environment. One stream of Mark’s research is on the Fair Trade movement, examining the dynamics of Fair Trade as a social movement, its impact on the livelihoods of coffee producers, the ecology of coffee farms, and its potential impacts on practices of consumption in the North. His field work for this research was carried out primarily in Chiapas, Mexico. A second stream is on the management of wildland fire in the American west, looking at the ecological implications and history of our relationship to free-burning fire.  Field work for this latter project was conducted with fire managers throughout Oregon.
