Faculty>Leah Joseph

Leah H. Joseph, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies; B.S., University of Rochester; M.S., Ph.D., University of Michigan.

Dr. Joseph teaches the core Environmental Studies (ENV) courses, including the introductory course, Issues in Environmental Studies, and the senior seminar, in addition to courses in climate change and other areas of environmental science, and more interdisciplinary topics.  With degrees in geology and oceanography (marine geology and geochemistry), most of her research has focused in the investigation of climate change over the last 70 million years through the study of deep-sea sediment.  She continues to participate on oceanographic research cruises.   In addition, she has recently expanded her interests and activities to include modern environmental issues and campus/community sustainability.  Prior to arriving at Ursinus College, Dr. Joseph served as an assistant professor and the assistant director of the Environmental Studies Program at Hobart and William Smith College where her activities included initiating a food-scrap composting program working with student on paleoclimatic research, co-directing an abroad program to Ecuador and Peru, as well as active involvement in community outreach activities.
