Student Opportunities

A broad array of opportunities are available for students studying Mathematics and Computer Science at Ursinus College. Recent students have completed internships in the summer or during the school year at local firms including ActiveStrategy, Eggland's Best, Hayes, Inc., Lockheed-Martin, Merck, QVC, and many others. These internships provide students with excellent experience in industry, helping them to understand and select among the diverse set of future career directions, tailoring their studies to achieve their goals.

Students often take advantage of on-campus research opportunities, working one-on-one with faculty members in areas closely related to the faculty member's interests. Research can be performed as a normal part of the activities of the school year by signing up for research hours, or during the summer by participating in the Summer Fellows program which provides housing and a summer stipend. Exceptional students may also choose to turn their research into Honors and Distinguished Honors theses during their senior year. This research experience has paved the way for recent Ursinus graduates to join Masters and Ph.D. programs at schools including Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, the University of Delaware and the University of California, Irvine.

Other departmental opportunities include participation in the student chapters of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). These active student-run organizations host a range of events from sessions on building computers from parts to discussions of advanced Mathematical topics to trips to programming competitions.
