At Ursinus, theater and dance is for everyone!
We believe that your experience with theater
and dance will change you—open your heart, strengthen your body,
illuminate your soul and challenge your mind.
The innovative Theater and Dance Department at Ursinus provides students with opportunities to explore the art of
performance, movement, choreography, directing and design, as
well as the scholarly study of theater and dance history, theory
and aesthetics. We welcome performers of all levels, from those
who wish to explore theater or dance as careers, to those who
wish to perform because of the joy it brings them.
Housed in the new, state-of-the-art Kaleidoscope Performing Arts
Center,
the Theater and Dance Department offers Ursinus students the
opportunity to major or minor in Theater or in Dance. The
Kaleidoscope allows students to work with the latest theatrical
technologies in two theaters, studios and classrooms. Theater
students can study acting, design, technical theater, directing,
history and dramaturgy. Dance technique courses are offered in
contemporary dance, jazz dance, improvisation and contact
improvisation, modern dance, dance conditioning, partnering and
ballet. Opportunities abound for students to perform their work
throughout the year, including two main stage theater productions
and one dance concert each semester. Creative, independent work
by students is strongly encouraged and supported. Visiting
artists grace our stages as well, providing our students with
master classes and performances throughout the year.
